Family Business

I launched Devigi with the help of my daughter and mother in addition to the rest of my extended family who were there to help test activewear designs, measure sizes, load product, and give opinions. My daughter helped design the women’s apparel and products, select colors, and saved us from a few production issues. My mom was not only our corporate counsel and business advisor, but our best sales person and women’s activewear product tester. After assessing our marketing and sales strategy, my daughter took the lead to redesign the website, boost our social media presence and ran our new apparel photoshoot. Being in a family business means you pitch in wherever necessary and there are no days off or jobs that are outside your scope. Being in a family business strengthens both the business and the family bonds because we all care. Our success matters.

I grew up in a family business where holiday tables were filled not with food but with computer assembly parts. We gathered around the table and talked, laughed, and fought as all families do, but we were working together toward a common goal, the success of the family business. I learned what hard work meant as well as marketing, production, operations, inventory management, and shipping. For me, family business was not about “helping” or doing chores but being active participant on a team and sharing the women’s apparel business with my daughter was more valuable than any family vacation.

Working in a family business requires respect and communication. My daughter was an integral part of the team running projects and contributing to strategy, earning respect as a business partner.
