How To Measure Your Weight Goals

How to best plan to weigh yourself to encourage and achieve results

When and how often you should weigh yourself is a frequently debated topic partly because there are not easy answers. Like many fitness questions the answer is a firm “it depends.” Weighing yourself is a critical measure of fitness and of course weight loss success but it is not the only measure. Some experts recommend not weighing yourself but to focus on other measures of health and fitness or how clothing fits or how you look in the mirror. The critical concern is how someone uses and interprets the number from the scale.scale_upload-x

The scale number is not necessarily a measure of health or fitness and thus putting great stock in the scale number alone can be a false indicator and in some cases a discouraging one. If someone is healthy and fit, the scale number may not matter and in fact having that number decline could be a decline in health and fitness. For other people it is a motivating number to track progress more regularly than simply, “do my jeans fit”, as a measure.

The question then becomes: “How regularly?” Again the answer depends on how one views the data. If you weigh yourself every day and panic that the number went up by a pound or three, you are weighing yourself too frequently. Daily weight can provide motivation and a reminder that one cookie may be enough but it is not an indicator that you have gained or lost weight since yesterday. What is most important to weight loss is a weekly average as a measure of a trend. This trend data is also only valuable if the data itself is consistent. In other words you have to weigh yourself at the same time and under the same conditions every day.

To track meaningful weight loss, it is a good idea to weigh everyday to keep your focus on your goals but not to overreact to daily variation and instead target meaningful change to your weekly averages. If see a number two pounds higher one day is discouraging to you – weigh yourself less frequently. Don’t let a daily number discourage you. Most important of all is you kick up the intensity of your workouts and eat healthy to improve fitness. Devigi has the women’s active wear to ensure success with your workout routine.
